Biohazardous Waste

We realize that the subject of regulated medical waste sometimes can be complicated and confusing, and we’re here to answer any questions you may have. The Medical Waste Tracking Act of 1988 broadly defined medical waste as any solid waste that is generated in the diagnosis, treatment, or immunization of human beings or animals. We have listed items that generally DO go into the Medi-Waste red bag containers. We always ask you to check your facility’s policies and procedures and adhere to your specific guidelines before disposing of waste. If you have questions, please call 1-855-631-MEDI (6334).

Pathological Waste

Pathological waste includes organs, tissues, body parts other than teeth, and fluids removed by trauma or during surgery or autopsy or other medical procedure. All containers of pathological waste must have a “biohazard label” and marked for “incinerate only”. We have listed items that generally DO go into the Medi-Waste red bag containers. We always ask you to check your facility’s policies and procedures and adhere to your specific guidelines before disposing of waste. If you have questions, please call 1-855-631-MEDI (6334).

Pharmaceutical Waste

Pharma waste or Pharmaceutical waste is not one single waste stream, but several distinct waste streams that reflect the complexity and diversity of the chemicals that comprise pharmaceutical dosage forms. Because healthcare has not traditionally been focused on waste stream management in this area, a number of misconceptions have arisen around the proper methods for segregating and disposing of pharmaceutical waste. For more information on our complete Pharmaceutical Program that provides you with a formulary review, assessments plans on your current process, and assist you with the proper segregation of you waste, please call 1-855-631-MEDI (6334).

Below you will find items that should be properly disposed of in the Trace Chemo (Yellow) containers. We have listed items that generally DO go into the yellow trace chemo containers. We always ask you to check your facility’s policies and procedures and adhere to your specific guidelines before disposing of waste. If you have questions, please call 1-855-631-MEDI (6334).
